Profile

Hello, I am Felipe Elorrieta.
Associate Professor at Universidad de Santiago de Chile.

About Me

I am a statistical engineer from Universidad de Santiago, Santiago, Chile, received in 2011, M.S. degree in statistics from Pontificia Universidad Católica, Santiago, Chile, received in 2013, Ph.D. degree in statistics from Pontificia Universidad Católica, Santiago, Chile, received in 2018. I am currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Science, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Universidad de Santiago, Chile.

My research interests are the analysis of time series data and the statistical methods used in classification problems. This research line has allowed me to approach the analysis of astronomical data. In the last 10 years I have collaborated in Astro-Statistics research teams at the Millennium Institute of Astrophysics (MAS), the Chilean broker for LSST, ALeRCE, and for the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Astrophysics and Space Sciences (CIRAS) at the University of Santiago.

In addition, I have focused some of my research time on the statistical analysis of infectious diseases, particularly in their impact on the population. With the advent of COVID-19 in 2020 I was able to lead interdisciplinary research teams such as GEMVEP-USACH and Data Salud-USACH.

For more information about my research and teaching expierence, please see my CV . Furthermore, you can follow my research in my Google Scholar , ResearchGate , and ORCID ID profiles.

Teaching

Time Series

In this course I seek to present to the students basic concepts of time series and their applications.

Advanced Time Series

In this course I aim to familiarize the student with advanced time series methods with applications in finance.

Algorithms in Data Mining

In this course I review Machine Learning concepts and techniques that allow segmenting, classifying and interpreting large volumes of data.

Numerical Methods

In this course, mathematical optimization algorithms are presented with application in statistical problems that require it.
